A work train prepares to leave as an eastbound comes off the hill. The work train consists of two FURX (ex-BN) SD40-2's and a flat car loaded with a ramp. They are scheduled to pick up a bulldozer and other equipment at Merritt and Berne.

Although there are volcanoes in the Cascades, this isn't one of them. Fans at the east end of the Cascade Tunnel push the smoky exhaust out the west end at Scenic, clearing the air for the next train and its crew or passengers.
