UP 3533 waits at the Argo engine facility for it’s next assignment in Seattle, Washington on January 23, 1988.

UP 3533 is an EMD SD40-2. SD40-2′s were everywhere on the UP at this time and I almost forgot to take pictures of them, especially when other interesting locomotives were around. Remember, 1988 was in film days so you had a limited number of exposures. At least I did, since the budget didn’t allow for many luxuries and grandma’s need to see pictures of the kids always took priority!

IC 6071 is a remanufactured EMD SD40-2R and was originally built as the protoype SD40 on an SD35 frame as EMDX 434. It then went to Gulf, Mobile & Ohio GMO 950, then to Illinois Central Gulf ICG 6071 and finally to IC 6071.
